Location & Directions
Lower Castle Beat lies approximately one mile downriver from Huntly. Access is off the
Huntly/Portsoy road B0922, turn down Marquis Drive signposted Castle Hotel. Pass Huntly Lodge
Farm, then through two sets of five bar gates to the fishing hut with eco lavatory.
The Fishing
Lower Castle Beat is approximately one and a quarter miles long and is all double banked.
This is a 4 rod beat normally fished on a two-up, two-down basis with a changeover at lunchtime. Above Meeting Pot and through the gorge the bank is quite rocky in parts and care should be taken.
There are twenty one named pools on the beat.
Fishing is by fly and spinning only. Worming is not permitted.
Coniecleugh Fishing is the adjacent downstream beat with eighteen named pools and can be booked together with Castle for larger fishing parties or for greater choice of water.
